Electric Vehicle Compatibility

This charger connects directly to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles equipped with an SAE J1772 / Type 1 AC charging inlet.

Type 1 is used by many North American and Japanese electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Always inspect the physical vehicle charging inlet before ordering, because the same vehicle model may have a different connector depending on its original market.

Vehicles equipped with Type 2, GB/T or Tesla/NACS charging inlets do not connect directly to the J1772 connector. A suitable approved adapter may be required, and compatibility must be confirmed before use.

The 9.6kW rating represents the maximum output available from the charger. Actual charging power depends on the vehicle's onboard AC charger, electrical supply, current setting, battery condition and vehicle limitations.

Important Terms Explained

What is SAE J1772 or Type 1?

SAE J1772, commonly known as Type 1, is an AC charging connector used by many North American, Japanese and imported electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It is physically different from Type 2, GB/T and Tesla/NACS charging connectors.

What is a NEMA 14-50 Plug?

NEMA 14-50 is a four-prong North American plug and receptacle configuration commonly used with a 240V electrical circuit. This charger requires a matching, correctly installed NEMA 14-50 receptacle and cannot be connected to a standard household outlet.

What is the Difference Between NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 6-50?

The two plug types have different shapes and connections. NEMA 14-50 has four prongs, while NEMA 6-50 has three. The plugs and receptacles are not interchangeable.

What Does Separate Holster Mean?

The charging connector holder is supplied as a separate wall-mounted component rather than being integrated into the charger enclosure. This provides greater flexibility when selecting the connector storage and cable-management position.

What Does Level 2 Mean?

Level 2 refers to higher-voltage AC charging that is generally faster than basic Level 1 charging. The vehicle's onboard charger converts incoming AC electricity into DC electricity for the traction battery.

What Does NEMA 4 Mean?

NEMA 4 describes the environmental protection of the charger enclosure. It does not describe the electrical plug. NEMA 14-50 is the input plug configuration.

Autel Charge App and Smart Charging

The Autel Charge app allows the user to manage the charging station through a compatible mobile device and connected network.

  • Remotely start or stop charging.
  • Create a charging schedule.
  • Monitor charging and connection status.
  • Review charging-session history.
  • Receive charger status notifications.
  • Manage supported charger settings.

Electrical Installation Requirements

  • A dedicated electrical circuit for the EV charger.
  • A high-quality, correctly installed NEMA 14-50 receptacle.
  • Suitable cable and circuit protection for the continuous electrical load.
  • A properly tested grounding system.
  • Installation by a qualified electrician or EV charger installation team.
  • Current configuration matched to the electrical circuit capacity.
  • No general-purpose extension lead or non-rated socket adapter.

To provide the full 40A charging output, the Autel US manual lists a 50A branch circuit. Local electrical regulations, cable distance, installation conditions and site requirements must also be followed.

Autel recommends a hardwired configuration for certain outdoor installations. The installation location and environmental protection should be assessed by a qualified installer.

Important Notice for the US-Market Version

The official US manual lists this product family for 208/240V AC, 60Hz, single-phase power. Before installation in the UAE or another 50Hz market, verify the physical product nameplate and obtain confirmation that the supplied unit is approved for the local electrical supply.

NEMA 14-50 is a North American plug configuration and is not a standard UAE household socket. A dedicated matching receptacle and electrical circuit must be installed by a qualified professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Type 1 or Type 2 charger?

This model is equipped with an SAE J1772 / Type 1 vehicle connector. It is not supplied with a Type 2 connector.

Does it connect directly to every electric vehicle?

It connects directly to vehicles equipped with a Type 1 inlet. Type 2, GB/T and Tesla/NACS vehicles require compatibility confirmation and may require an approved adapter.

Will every vehicle charge at 9.6kW?

No. Actual charging speed depends on the maximum AC input accepted by the vehicle. A vehicle limited to 7.2kW cannot charge at 9.6kW.

Can the charging current be reduced?

Yes. The charger supports a lower maximum-current setting to match the capacity of the electrical circuit. Configuration should be completed by a qualified installer.

Can the charger be installed outdoors?

The charger has a NEMA 4 enclosure and is designed for properly installed indoor or outdoor use. Autel recommends hardwiring for certain outdoor installations.

Does the charger require internet access?

Internet connectivity is required for app-based remote features. Basic charging depends on correct commissioning, electrical installation and communication with the vehicle.

Can it be connected to a standard household socket?

No. This version requires a matching NEMA 14-50 receptacle and a dedicated electrical circuit suitable for continuous EV charging.

Is installation included in the product price?

Installation inclusion depends on the selected offer. Installation cost may vary according to electrical panel location, cable distance, routing method and required electrical protection.
