Vehicle Compatibility

The charger connects directly to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles equipped with an SAE J1772 / Type 1 charging inlet.

Vehicles equipped with Type 2, GB/T or Tesla/NACS charging inlets do not connect directly to this J1772 connector and may require a suitable, approved adapter. Vehicle and adapter compatibility should always be confirmed before purchase.

The 9.6kW rating is the charger's maximum available output. The actual charging rate is determined by the vehicle's onboard AC charger, available electrical supply, current setting, battery condition and other vehicle limitations.

Terminology Explained

What is SAE J1772 or Type 1?

SAE J1772, commonly called Type 1, is an AC charging connector used by many North American, Japanese and imported electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Its shape is different from Type 2, GB/T and Tesla/NACS connectors.

What is a NEMA 6-50 Plug?

NEMA 6-50 is a three-prong North American plug commonly used for a 240V electrical supply. It requires a matching NEMA 6-50 receptacle and cannot be connected directly to a NEMA 14-50 receptacle or a standard household socket.

What Does Separate Holster Mean?

The connector holster is supplied as a separate wall-mounted component rather than being integrated into the charger body. This provides greater flexibility when selecting the connector storage position.

What Does Level 2 Mean?

Level 2 refers to higher-voltage AC charging that is generally faster than basic Level 1 charging. The vehicle's onboard charger converts the incoming AC electricity into DC electricity for the traction battery.

Is NEMA 4 the Plug Type?

No. NEMA 4 describes the charger's enclosure protection, while NEMA 6-50 describes the electrical input plug.

Autel Charge App and Smart Control

The Autel Charge app allows the user to remotely start and stop charging, monitor charging status, review charging sessions and schedule charging. Scheduling can help the user charge at convenient times or during lower electricity tariff periods where available.

Electrical Installation Requirements

  • A dedicated electrical circuit for the EV charger.
  • A correctly installed NEMA 6-50 receptacle.
  • Suitable circuit protection and cable sizing for the continuous load and cable distance.
  • A properly tested grounding system.
  • Installation by a qualified electrician or EV charger installation team.
  • Verification of the product nameplate against the local voltage and frequency before installation.

Outdoor installation must follow Autel's instructions and applicable local electrical requirements. Autel recommends a hardwired arrangement for certain outdoor installations.

Included with This Configuration

  • 25-foot SAE J1772 / Type 1 charging cable.

Mounting accessories and package contents may vary by production batch. The physical carton contents should be verified before delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this charger Type 1 or Type 2?

This model has an SAE J1772 / Type 1 connector. It is not supplied with a Type 2 connector.

Does it work with every electric vehicle?

It connects directly to vehicles with a Type 1 inlet. Vehicles with other charging inlets require compatibility confirmation and may need a suitable adapter.

Will every vehicle charge at 9.6kW?

No. The actual charging rate depends on the maximum AC charging power accepted by the vehicle, electrical supply and charger settings.

What is the difference between NEMA 6-50 and NEMA 14-50?

They are different plug and receptacle configurations. NEMA 6-50 has three prongs, while NEMA 14-50 has four. The two plugs are not interchangeable.

Does the charger need internet access?

Connectivity is required for app-based remote features. Basic charging availability depends on correct commissioning, electrical installation and vehicle communication.

Is installation included in the product price?

Product and installation pricing depend on the selected offer. Installation cost may vary according to electrical panel location, cable distance, routing method and protection requirements.
